THE ORCA PROSPECTOR

The Prospector is our most simple canoe to build, and an absolute classic. Due to her design features, she is a wonderfully safe and stable canoe.

She has a keel line, making for better tracking and less zig-zagging, if you are a first time paddler .

The build process is made even more simple with the use of uncomplicated joints. Build time is 4 days, but she can be completed in 3 if your time is limited.

CAN I BUILD IT??

The Prospector is our easiest canoe to build, and is designed to be built by complete novices. The stages of construction are very straightforward and progressive, and as you build your canoe, you will be surprised at how quickly it comes together. You will be working on your own canoe. If you have never done any wood work, bringing friends and family to help, makes the job much easier and fun! Don’t forget, we've had years of practice, eradicating those time consuming errors and we are always on hand to help if you need, but remember this is your canoe to build….
..Note, there's no extra cost to bring helpers along

We love seeing what amazing designs and colurs folk paint their canoe, and painting your canoe is one of the best parts. We have done a side elevation of the Prospector so you can use this to design your own artwork on the canoe. Its a PDF file, just print a load off and get inspired.

GRUB

This is a self-catering course, so bring some daytime fodder. We normally have a 1 hour lunch break so plenty of time to nip off to the local for food if you need as well. We have tea and coffee a plenty, so no need to bring flasks etc.

COMPLETION

There is plenty of time to paint your canoe, we have a selection of colours but feel free to bring your own.

And yes you can paddle your canoe once the paint is dry right out of our workshop on Ullswater!!

Don't forget your roof bars, and some decent cam buckle straps.. we have purpose made canoe straps for sale £10 a pair if you need some.

NOTE: We don't recommend ratchet straps.

PROSPECTOR OPTIONAL EXTRAS

All extras can be now be purchased when you book a build, or you can wait until you are at the workshop.

The prospector comes with 2 standard seats that you will fabricate during the course. If you would like we have hand made web seats starting from £30, along with carry yokes.

WORKSHOP LOCATION

All our workshops will be run from the shores of Ullswater at Pooley Bridge. There are plenty of campsites and accommodation in this area or you can still stay at our campsite in Great Strickland about 20min drive.

ACCOMMODATION

We can offer camping at Great Strickland (20 minutes away by car), but space is limited, so please text message Tom on 07774239699 to check availability.. It is a no frills kind of affair in a field.. there is a basic hot shower and flushing toilet. Dogs are allowed.  This is all arranged with the farm owners and can be paid in cash to them.

If you want something closer to the workshop, the Pooley Bridge and Penrith area has plenty of other options from luxury glampsites to B&Bs and hotels. Have a look at our accommodation page for some options.
