CANOE BUILDING WORKSHOPS
IN THE LAKE DISTRICT - POOLEY BRIDGE
YOUNG MASTER BUILDERS
One question we get asked frequently is "can I bring my child or children to help build the canoe" and the answer is YES of course you can. The workshops make for a great family holiday activity..there is loads to do and it's great having them along to help with the build. Depending on their age for young kids we have all sorts of jobs we can get them doing to keep them occupied. The youngest child we had on a build was a new born baby, not much we could get them to do but they seemed very contented hanging out with the team.
If you do bring your kids and are worried about how much they can really help with the build, there are plenty of local places to take them to. Don't forget about your canoe though!
Below is a list of our favorite places..
This is our place to head to on fine days. They sell huge mugs of steaming tea and coffee. So very British.
This is a short drive, or cycle, from our workshop and they have a play area, indoor and out as well as a ride on tractor circit and of course LOADS OF ICE-CREAM!
Close to Abbots Lodge, this is an amazing garden center with elevated tea rooms and craft studio and is a nice place to go if you need some lunch.
Morland is a really lovely village very close to us, it has a great spot called the Mill Yard Cafe. Check out the hidden gardens round the back.
This is more than your average visitors centre.. just off the Penrith junction of the M6. It has a kids castle play area, indoors kids activity centre, shops, cafes, imax and loads more. Highly recommended.
The old castle is a thing of wonder and has gardens and grounds you can explore, as well as a cafe. Near to Lowther is Askam.. another twee little village, it has pubs, cafes, a health spa and if you walk/drive to the top of the village there are some great walks onto the moorland with good views over Ullswater.
Awe inspiring trips on Ullswater.
This a stunning waterfall set in some lovely woods next to Ullswater.
We have a selcation of maps made just for kids based on fun stories all local walks.
